As
early as the 18th century, the city annals mentioned three adjacent townhouses,
where an inn and a tavern under the name of Pod Bialym Orlem, sited opposite the
Brama Florianska (St. Florian's Gate), served and welcomed all comers right after
they passed through the city gates. In 1913, the three townhouses were purchased
by prince Adam Ludwik Czartoryski, owner of the Czartoryski Palace, where he deposited
his family's acclaimed art collection. Today, after many maelstroms of history,
Hotel Polski Pod Bialym Orlem is still owned by the Czartoryski family. Located
within the city walls of old Krakow, the hotel overlooks the beginning of the
Royal Way at the Brama Florianska. Our next-door neighbour is the Czartoryski
Museum, which houses Leonardo's famous Lady With An Ermine.
